Benefit Overview

The Improved Pension Benefit for Aid & Attendance is available to Veterans and their surviving spouses who require assistance with activities of daily living. Eligible veterans can receive a monthly tax-free pension from the Veterans Administration of up to $23,396 a year. 

Veteran with a dependent   $23,396
Single Veteran $19,736
Surviving spouse with dependent $15,128
Surviving spouse of Veteran $12,681

The Aid & Attendance amounts shown above are current for 2009 and usually increase annually.  The next anticipated benefit increase is due in December 2009. Please check back with us for an update. 

Eligibility
The Aid & Attendance Improved Pension benefit is available to any United States Military Veteran (or surviving spouse) who meets service, financial, and physical criteria established by the VA.

Service Requirements

A qualified veteran must have served at least 90 days in the military and at least one of those days during a declared conflict. Any discharge is acceptable (with the exception of a dishonorable discharge). Even if you have a discharge other than an Honorable, contact us regarding exceptions and possible appeals. Surviving spouses are also eligible provided marriage ended due to death of the Veteran.

Listed below are the periods of wartime designated by Congress for pension purposes;
 
World War II: December 7, 1941, through December 31, 1946,
Korean Conflict: June 27, 1950, through January 31, 1955
Vietnam Era: August 5, 1964, through May 7, 1975
Persian Gulf War: August 2, 1990, through date prescribed by Presidential proclamation or law.
